Wiring diagrams: what is covered and how to find your circuit

A guide to the combined VX220/Speedster wiring diagram PDF (model year 2003): the 14 diagrams, how to read them and follow a circuit across pages, the wire colour codes and earth points, and a lookup of every component code, relay and fuse and the diagram it appears on.

Applies to: VX220 and Speedster, NA, TurboDifficulty: ModerateTime: Reading guide

An owner called Rally combined the separate wiring diagram PDFs from the Speedster Club Netherlands technical library into one 23-page PDF, so a circuit is easier to follow from page to page. The diagrams are headed "Speedster/VX220, model year 2003" and cover both the Z20LET (Turbo) and Z22SE (NA) engines. This page doesn't reproduce the diagrams. It explains what is in the PDF and how to use it, and lists every component code so you can find the right page. The PDF itself is in the Facebook post linked in Sources, and the original diagrams are in the manuals on the Speedster Club Netherlands site, linked from the guides page. You will still need the manual to see where components sit in the car.

The diagrams are for model year 2003 cars. We don't know how far other years differ, so check a circuit on the car before relying on a wire colour or fuse number. See Relays and fuses (NA) for where the relays and fuses are.

The 14 diagrams

The grid on the bottom of each diagram starts at its number times 100: the first diagram's grid starts at 100, the second at 200, and so on.

After the 14 diagrams there are five index pages: components, systems, wiring colours, grounding points and abbreviations. The component index is reproduced below.

How to read them

  • A circuit runs from the battery positive terminal to the negative terminal through an earth (grounding) point. On each page the wiring generally runs from top to bottom.
  • Most circuits run over more than one page. Where a wire carries on, it ends in a box with a number. That number is a grid reference along the bottom of the diagram, and tells you where to pick the wire up.
  • Components are labelled with a code in larger letters, and the system they belong to in smaller letters.
  • Each wire is marked with its colour code, which may be a single colour or a base colour with a stripe, and its size in mm².

Worked example (from the PDF). To trace the airbag circuit, start on the first page at the battery (G1). Follow wire 30 through the main fuse (FL1) to the ignition switch (S1), then along wire 15 to a box marked 1418. On diagram 14, find the box at the top of grid line 1418, which is marked 130 to show where the circuit came from. It carries on down to the airbag control unit (A1) and ends at grounding point 5.

Voltage labels

On the diagrams, wire 30 is constant (battery) voltage and wire 15 is ignition-switched voltage.

Component codes

The code on the diagram, what it is, and the diagram number(s) it appears on. Use your browser's find to search it. The wheel speed sensors B25 to B28 are the ones in the ABS sensor cable guide, and the central locking parts are covered in Central locking and alarm overview.

Help wanted
We don't know which model years these diagrams match beyond 2003, or whether later cars changed wiring colours or fuse positions. If you have a diagram for another year, or have found a mistake in these, please tell us. We also haven't reproduced the abbreviations page, which uses codes such as DWA, ZV and KSP.
