Relays and fuses (NA)

Where the relays and fuses are on the NA VX220 and Speedster, what each one is for, and the fuse ratings. Four places: the bonnet, the boot, the passenger footwell and behind the switches.

Applies to: VX220 and Speedster, NA

Check against your car. This comes from a diagram posted in 2010 for the NA car, with a request for corrections. One was reported in 2016 (the starter relay number, below). The Turbo is different in the boot, see the note there. Always replace a fuse with one of the same rating.

The relays and fuses are in four places. The original diagram is at the bottom of this page. "Near side" is the passenger side on a right-hand-drive car.

Starter relay number. The diagram labels the yellow relay K14. In 2016 an owner said that according to the wiring diagram it should be K24. The thread doesn't settle it.

K18, the brown ECU relay, is one of the things owners check when a car won't start with a P1512 fault. See P1512 and a car that won't start.

On the Turbo, one owner read the wiring diagrams and found four boot fuses, none of them 50 A: FR1, 20 A, cigarette lighter. FR2, 20 A, fuel pump. FR3, 7.5 A, coolant pump (additional). FR4, 7.5 A, central locking backup battery. He calls his understanding of the circuit diagrams "rudimentary". Another owner had thought one of his was 50 A, and it was suggested he had misread it.

Identifying the relays

The grey Bosch relay is used for five of the circuits (horn, radiator fan, low beam, high beam and fuel pump). The yellow one is the Lotus start inhibit module.

The yellow Lotus relay, B116M0032 (starter, K14).

Help wanted
The diagram covers the NA car only, and the thread doesn't give the Turbo's bonnet fuse box, which may differ. The starter relay number is disputed (K14 or K24), the list stops at fuse 22, and nothing says what the blank fuse positions are. If you have checked your own car, please tell us what you found, and send photos of the fuse box lid if it is labelled. Wiring diagrams are in the service manual (TIS) on the guides page.
