The steps below are shortened from the Vauxhall TIS pages for the Speedster. The VX220 shares the same engines and most of the car, but check anything unusual against your own car. The TIS pictures and the full wording aren't reproduced, so use the workshop manual if you are doing the job. We haven't seen owners' accounts of this job, so there are no owner tips here.

Gear shift linkage adjustment
NA (Z22SE) only.
Remove
- Gear shift trim from vehicle.
Adjust
- Position transmission in neutral.
- Cable settings – loosen nuts and adjust cables.
Install
- Gear shift trim to vehicle.
Shift cables
NA (Z22SE) only.
Remove
- Centre console – see "Centre Console, Remove and Install".
- Shift cables from shift lever and support bracket.
- Shift cables from transmission.
- Cable support from underside of vehicle – bolts.
- Shift cables from vehicle – clips.
Adjust
- Shift cables to vehicle – clips.
- Cable support to underside of vehicle – bolts.
- Shift cables to transmission.
- Shift cables to shift lever and support bracket.
- Centre console – see "Centre Console, Remove and Install".
- Transmission shift linkage – see "Transmission Shift Linkage, Adjust".
Gearshift lever
NA (Z22SE) only.
Remove
- Centre console – see "Centre Console, Remove and Install".
Install
- Selector and cross shift cables from shift lever and support bracket.
- Shift lever with support bracket from floor pan – bolts.
- Shift lever with support bracket to floor pan.
- Selector and cross shift cables to shift lever and support bracket.
- Centre console.
Adjust
- Transmission shift linkage – see "Transmission Shift Linkage, Adjust".
Shift mechanism assembly
NA (Z22SE) only.
Procedure
- Illustration of shift mechanism assembly
- Remove transmission from vehicle - see "Transmission, Remove and Install"
- Install KM-6115 to transmission
- Install KM-6115 with transmission to KM-113-2
- Remove bolt from shift mechanism assembly
- Remove 5x bolt (arrowed) from shift mechanism assembly
- Remove shift mechanism assembly from transmission
- Clean sealing surfaces and thread
- Check all removed parts, replace if necessary
- Apply sealing compound to area of transmission housing - maximum thickness 2 mm
- Align shift mechanism assembly to transmission inner parts of shift mechanism and insert into transmission
- Install 5x bolt 25 Nm to shift mechanism assembly
- Apply locking compound to thread (arrowed) of bolt
- Install bolt 25 Nm to shift mechanism assembly
- Remove KM-6115 with transmission from KM-113-2
- Remove KM-6115 from transmission
- Install transmission to vehicle - see "Transmission, Remove and Install"
Shift forks
NA (Z22SE) only.
Procedure
- Illustration of shift fork
- Remove transmission from vehicle - see "Transmission, Remove and Install"
- Disassemble transmission - see "Transmission, Seal Completely"
- Inspect relevant gear shift fork. If plastic parts in hatched area are worn, or damaged, or if gear shift fork is damaged in any way, then gear shift fork must be replaced
- Assemble transmission - see "Transmission, Seal Completely"
- Install transmission in vehicle- see "Transmission, Remove and Install"
Reversing lamp switch
NA (Z22SE) only.
Procedure
- Reversing Lamp Switch, Remove and Install
Remove, Disconnect
- Harness connector from switch.
- Switch from transmission.
Install, Connect
- Coat thread of switch with surface sealant (green) and screw switch into transmission - 20 Nm.
- Harness connector to switch.
Inspect
- Level of transmission fluid and correct if necessary - see "Transmission Fluid Level, Check and Correct".
